New Scout Orientation
As new boys join our troop, an older Scout (Patrol Leader or Guide) is identified to mentor them. A new parent orientation is held as needed to provide information about the troop and help parents identify how best to assist their son. Feel free to review the New Parent Guidebook and the Troop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) under Resources to get a good idea of how the troop functions.
New Parent Orientation This is an opportunity for parents
to meet with an Assistant Scoutmaster and a member of the committee to get a
better understanding about how the troop operates and to get questions
addressed. This will occur in the chapel during the boys usual troop
meeting at various times of the year. The New Parent Guidebook is also
available on the Resources page.
Troop Leadership Mike joined the troop in March 2007 as an Assistant Scoutmaster. Becoming Scoutmaster in December 2009, Mike coaches the boy leadership and shares his expertise in first aid and outdoor skills.
John joined the troop in April 2007 as a Committee Member. Becoming Committee Chair in December 2009, John leads a group of adults to provide necessary support to the troop.
Troop History
Troop 111 was established on St. Patrick’s Day, 1994 through the efforts of Dave and Sue Hietanen and Terry Hope. Our green neckerchiefs symbolize the troop’s origination date. Since its inception Troop 111 has had only 5 scoutmasters: Terry Hope (3/17/1994-10/01/97; 12/11/01-9/28/03), Dave Hietanen (10/01/97-12/11/01), Skip Wooten (09/28/03-2/10/08), Steve Visokay (2/10/08-12/8/09), and Mike Nelson (12/8/09-present).
Our charter organization is the Charlottesville District United Methodist Men.
We in Troop 111 live by the guiding principles of the Boy Scouts of America. Our goal for the boys of Troop 111 is to have them independently grow into young men guided by the principles embodied in the Scout Oath and Law. |
